The Whatsapp / Facebook connection vs your privacy.

Did you know Whatsapp sends Facebook your ‘private’ info for ‘analysis’ in order to tailor-make the ads you see?

This is a classic example of people not reading the terms and conditions when updating software. Most users just accept new terms as read and move on but at what cost? Certainly in the case of WhatsApp, your privacy. If you accepted the last WhatsApp update your data is being sent to Facebook for advertising purposes. They call it “nudging you towards better choices”. This is why you may be surprised at having a conversation with someone about buying a new car and suddenly new car ads pop up on the side of your Facebook feed. Most people I share this information with are incredulous with responses such as, “No, No, WhatsApp is private and information is not shared!” Ok then prove it to yourself. Open Whatsapp, go to Settings (the cog), select ‘Account’ and scroll to the bottom. There you will find the legal jargon which allows the app to share your private information with Facebook. I personally would suggest moving the option to ‘Don’t Share’ but ultimately it is your decision to make.
