The Facebook Privacy Hoax

This old nonsense has resurfaced and you have no doubt noticed an increase with many of your friends posting this ridiculous and misleading statement about not allowing Facebook to "disclose, copy, distribute" .. blah blah. To make it more convincing, words like "official" and "as seen on Channel 13 news" and "punished by law" are used. This post along with several variants that have been circulating the globe for years are false and adding "just in case" or "better safe than sorry" don't make it any less rubbish. This is the same argument used in forwarding good luck chain letters. Basically the idea about privacy and posting anything online are mutually exclusive. It is very simple, if you want something to remain private, DON'T PUT IT ON FACEBOOK.

Below are two examples currently doing the rounds.
