iPhone users beware of extra charges

I did feature this on my Facebook page a few weeks ago, but many fans have requested a repost - so here it is. This is not a scam alert; just a warning for Apple users who have upgraded to any version of iOS9. There is a new feature called “Wi-Fi assist” which could cost you a lot of money if you don't know how to use it.

With each update from apple, the product keeps getting better but users need to be aware of all features including those they may not want. In the new iOS 9 update a new feature is included called “Wi-Fi assist” which basically means that when the Wi-Fi signal is poor, the phone wi...ll automatically switch to using cellular data. This could mean that you are at home thinking you are using Facebook on your Wi-Fi network but actually if the signal strength is poor, then you could actually be using your cell network instead which could potentially lead to huge costs at month end. The function is useful if you have unlimited data and hate slow Wi-Fi connections especially in public places, as the phone will determine if the Wi-Fi signal or your cell signal is better for downloads. Useful but dangerous if you are keeping an eye on your data costs. The good news is that it is super easy to turn on and off as needed, but once iOS 9 is loaded, the option is automatically switched to ON. To change it, go to settings. Select “cellular” (or "mobile data" on UK based phones) and scroll all the way to the end to find the “Wi-Fi Assist” option. Switch it off and you are done. While you are here it may be a good idea to scroll through all your apps and decide which can use Cellular and which are restricted to Wi-Fi only.
